Season 1, Episode 2, “Beginnings” introduces the Saint Mary’s Cadets, a group of young men at Dayton’s Saint Mary’s Institute (now the University of Dayton) who form an athletic club. Members of the club, most notably Alphonse “Al” Mahrt, George “Babe” Zimmerman and Norbert “Norb” Sacksteder, will go on to form the nucleus of the first Dayton Triangles football team in 1916. The episode also covers the reforms of 1905, the reduced violence in American football and ensured its survival. Here’s a short preview of the episode.
